Socio-demographic backwardness in cyclone prone coastal villages: An Insight from Indian Sundarban

The capability to design for, respond to, and recover from natural hazards is much influenced by demographic socio-economic vulnerability of the region. Triggering effect cyclone induced multi-hazards in coastal areas West Bengal, India makes life livelihood people miserable. Very recent cyclones, like, Fani, Bulbul, Amphan Yaas make more susceptible hazard with evil impact on-going pandemic. According IPCC, sensitivity adaptive capacity analysis at micro level taking importance address readiness situation In this backdrop, study aims assess map backwardness village for Kakdwip area under India. Applying principal component we have tried find out different geographical locations (categorise as inland, riverine/ estuarine, island). final findings suggest that prevalent southern part research region, island estuary villages being particularly vulnerable. When results tries triggering factors locations, female child population, land holdings earning household came dominant such higher degree backwardness. These findings, when combined assessments, could help administrators, planners policymakers, emergency managers effective spatially tailored management plans.
